Cold plates (water/liquid cooling plates) contain narrow serpentine channels and blind holes where metal chips, micron particles and oil remain after machining, causing blockage and cooling degradation. ESML cold plate cleaning equipment uses targeted flushing with multi-stage rinsing designed around the channel geometry; flush–rinse–dry–cool runs in one line with residual particle size referenced at ≤ 200 μm and cleanliness assessed per ISO 16232 / VDA 19.1 (particle size distribution and residual contaminant mass), with programmable 30–180 s cycle times. The line uses manual loading/unloading with automatic tray transfer (configured per project) and has been deployed at a leading domestic thermal management Tier 1 supplier for cold plate / manifold cleaning.

What contaminants does cold plate cleaning remove?
After machining, cold plate serpentine channels and blind holes mainly carry metal chips, micron particles, oil and detergent residue. Targeted flushing plus multi-stage rinsing removes chips and particles and controls oil and ionic residue, preventing channel blockage, cooling degradation and downstream particle contamination; cleanliness is assessed per ISO 16232 / VDA 19.1 after cleaning.
How is cold plate cleanliness assessed? What does ≤200 μm mean?
Per ISO 16232 / VDA 19.1, the extraction liquid after cleaning is analyzed by membrane filtration, reporting both particle size distribution (counts per size band) and residual contaminant mass. Our equipment is designed with a residual particle reference of ≤ 200 μm; the actual limits are defined by the OEM or Tier 1 in drawings or cleanliness specifications, and the equipment can be aligned with the customer's limits and inspection workflow.
What is the cycle time of a cold plate cleaning machine?
Cycle time ranges roughly 30–180 seconds per piece, programmed by plate size, channel complexity, cleanliness class and capacity target; it is calculated during solution design together with rinse stages and drying. Larger plates and longer channels extend the cycle accordingly.
How does the cold plate cleaning line handle loading and unloading?
The standard configuration is manual loading/unloading with automatic in-line tray transfer: after the operator places cold plates on trays or locating fixtures, trays move automatically through cleaning, rinsing, drying and cooling, avoiding recontamination from handling, with no need for constant operator attendance. Loading and unloading are configured per customer solution and can be extended to interface with automated logistics.
Does the equipment support traceability? What other workpieces can it clean?
Yes — a per-piece UID records key process parameters such as flushing pressure, flow and temperature, plus cleanliness results, with full key-parameter history and Profinet / OPC UA protocols for MES/SCADA integration. Beyond cold/water cooling plates, the same platform adapts to manifolds, coolant lines and quick-disconnect components, and oil coolers — other components with internal flow channels.
